About Austin Korean School

2. History The Austin Korean School was established on August 15th, 1986 by Mr. Hur, Myung, and 36 other leaders of Austin Korean Society. The school has not had its own place since the beginning. The school had to move its location several times starting from the 1st location, Austin City Northwest Recreation Center, to Austin Community College, to Murchison Middle School (Farwest), to UT Austin, to Korean Presbyterian Church, back to Murchison Middle School (Fall 1994-Spring 1999) and finally to current location, Webb Jr. High School (St. Johns and IH35, since Fall 1999). Mr.Chung, Min-Ho has been the Chief Director of the school since 1992 and has supported the school to be successful in spite of various difficult situations. The school is financially supported by student tuition, contributions from Houston Korean Education Center, the Parents Association and Samsung Austin Semiconductor, which has been school's major sponsor since Fall 1996. The school has changed in its sizes and locations in the past. As of Spring semester 2007, there are 22 classes, 24 teachers and 236 students. We will put sincere efforts to teach Hangul (Korean) to students efficiently.
